Initially my father personified as my life teacher and today it is my grandson. Everyday I repeatedly make mistake and learn of “let go” principle from my grandson, through his actions. He is 5 years old. This guy is an amazing teacher, able to let go off every turmoil / emotion. To me that is life patiently teaching me through my grandson, until I learn!

I’m not in the habit of quoting Jesus, but didn’t he say something about needing to become like children in order to enter the kingdom of heaven?

Yes, learning from kids is a wonderful idea. At least up to the point where — because of what WE’RE we’re teaching THEM — they turn into neurotics like ourselves. Sigh.

    Amen to that!! :))

Oh Steve what a hopeless statement. Not everyone will turn into a neurotic at our hands. I am sure that we do some good in the lives of our children. 😉

I disagree. One of my supervisors once told me, “Neurotic is as healthy as anyone gets.”
That’s a realistic statement, not a hopeless one. The fact is, the cost of living among other people is to be socialized — i.e., forced to suppress or deny parts of who we really are, such as certain feelings or ways of expressing ourselves. That happens to everyone, inevitably. And believing otherwise simply leaves a parent unable either to grasp what children go through or how to help them.

Is it being forced to suppress or deny or is it simply to be civilized? We have to co-exist with each other. I believe as a parent I can and do grasp what my child goes through and that is why home becomes our safe place to fall. I don’t think putting our best foot forward deprives us of our needs and feelings. I just think there are appropriate times and places to “let our hair down.” In my humble opinion…

You sound like a perfectly well-adjusted person. Unfortunately, as Krishnamurti said, “It is no sign of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.”

I guess so Steve. You have told me on numerous occasions that I am normal but not healthy. So I guess my wanting to give my best to life and to others makes me unhealthy. But maybe, just maybe, if we all tried to be our best, our kindest, this profoundly sick society just might get well. ✌️
